A live-in Caregiver is someone who offers a senior person, a child or disabled person practical assistance in their everyday life. This program offers another option for children, seniors or persons with a disability to remain in their home as long as possible.

This is a means of living independently, and at the same time family members can be confident that your needs are being met by someone with the appropriate training.

Live-in caregivers live with the individual in their home for the duration of the contract.

To live and work in Canada as a caregiver you must make and application to the Live-In Caregiver Program. Successful applicants will receive a work permit.

Some typical tasks undertaken by a Live-in Caregiver:

  • Assist with personal care & mobility
  • Remind and help with medication
  • Meal preparation
  • Daily care of children
  • Housework
  • Accompany and assist with appointments
  • Social support-reading, watching television together and conversing
